Goshen, April 2008 - Over forty women from throughout the county enjoyed a Pre-Passover Movement and Meditation workshop arranged by Chabad’s Jewish Women’s Circle.  Dr. Larry and Emily Gordon of Goshen hosted the program.

IMG_0226.JPGChana Burston, leader of the Jewish Women’s Circle, welcomed the crowd and offered insights on the holiday of Passover.  “In the merit of the righteous women, our forefathers were redeemed from Egypt,” Chana quoted the sages, highlighting the theme that Jewish women throughout the generations, in trying times, demonstrated extra measures of belief that there would be a better tomorrow.  “As women, we are empowered with special strength to influence others to stay strong in their faith.”

Neria Cohen, of Brooklyn, engaged participants in a creative workshop.  Through guided meditation, the women explored profound concepts in Jewish mysticism and then integrated the ideas through movement and dance.  “This seminar weaves spiritual concept and physical movement allowing participants to process thoughts and express emotion,” explained Cohen, who completed an honors degree in Drama and film in South Africa, and has studied Jewish mysticism extensively in Israel and Brooklyn.

“The experience had a lot of depth, and I felt very connected to all the women around me,” said Jodi Goldstein, of Washingtonville, who attended the Jewish Women’s Circle.

Afterward, the ladies enjoyed a delicious spread of healthful salads and desserts.  Alyse Matsil, of Perfect Foods, offered a wheat-grass juicing demonstration with tasting, and explained the benefits of drinking wheat-grass juice and the healing qualities contained within it.
