Over 1200 People from 45 Tri-State Chabad Centers Attend “Evening of Tribute”

Gimmel Tammuz 2007.jpgRabbi Pesach Burston, of Chabad of Orange County brought several participants to a unique event this past Thursday, June 14.  45 Chabad Centers and their communities from throughout the tri-state area joined together in Cambria Heights, NY at the visitor complex adjacent to Ohel Chabad Lubavitch, the resting place of The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, spiritual leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch Movement.

The event, entitled “An Evening of Tribute” was a memorial event remembering the life and legacy of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.  The event was held in honor of the third day of Tammuz, the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s 13th yahrzeit (anniversary of passing) that occurred this year on Tuesday, June 19.

The Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yonah Metzger, renowned for his wisdom and leadership, delivered the keynote address.  Rabbi Metzger spoke of how the greatness of the Rebbe is visible through his emissaries, and shared wonderful stories and insights about various emissaries around the world to exemplify this theme.

There were also appearances by political leaders, and cantorial renditions by world famous cantors Rabbi Shneur Zalman Baumgarten and Dudu Fisher.

Guests enjoyed a special video presentation and light buffet dinner.  Participants had the opportunity to visit the Ohel, the Rebbe’s resting place.

“Being at this event touched me deeply,” said Michael Mittentag, who attended from Newburgh.  “It’s amazing that the Rebbe, whom I never met, has had such a powerful impact on my soul.”  Mittentag began learning more about his Jewish heritage through attending a weekly Rabbi Pesach Burston’s weekly “Kabbalah & Chicken Soup” class at Chabad of Orange County.
