About Operation Thunderbolt - The Raid on Entebbe

Entebbe_Airport.jpgJUNE 27, 1976 - Palestinian and German terrorists hijack Air France flight 139 on route from Tel Aviv to Paris via Athens, and divert the plane to Entebbe, Uganda, demanding the release of dozens of prisoners.

JUNE 30–JULY 1, 1976 - Hijackers release 148 non-Israeli hostages, leaving behind 106, including the Jewish and Israeli group.

JULY 4, 1976 - Israel’s elite commando units mount a risky and miraculous rescue mission, flying thousands of miles over enemy airspace, storming the Entebbe airport, and effectively crippling the Ugandan Air Force.
